Driver, passengers injured in JUTC bus crash

The driver of a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus and several passengers on board were taken to hospital after they were injured in a crash along Studio One Boulevard in Cross Roads, yesterday morning.

It is reported that the JUTC driver swerved to avoid hitting a trailer, which was driving out of a plaza, when the bus slammed into a wall.

Being treated

A car reportedly then rammed into the back of the bus which had several passengers on board.

Marketing and communications manager of the state-owned bus company, Clinton Clarke, said up to news time the driver was still being treated as well as the other passengers.

He said he has not been given a recent update regarding the incident.

The vehicle is said to cost somewhere in the region of US$300,000 (J$34.5 million).

According to Clarke, matters of this nature then go to the company's accident and legal team.
