![]() Mahlon Hugh Shereita Grizzle, STAR Writer Up-and-coming gospel artiste Mahlon Hugh has his sights set on making 2015 a year with a difference - and not just where his career is concerned. In a recent interview with The STAR, the entertainer, who is also a devoted Christian, said his musical inspiration comes from God, his life, and what's happening in the world. Stating that he has a special place for young people, the entertainer hopes that in 2015 he can help make a positive impact on Jamaica's youth through his music ministry. His debut album, 7 Perfection, which was released late last year, has 12 tracks, all of which speak to the entertainer's need to spread the word of God. Though admitting that producing the album was a challenge, Hugh said the response so far has been great. "The production challenges posed a setback, but people just love the album," he said. "Pastors, disc jocks, and even the man on the street have been telling me how powerful the messages on it are," he said. While remaining upbeat about taking his career to the next level in 2015, the recording artiste said being a gospel artiste in Jamaica is extremely difficult. "It is very difficult for all artistes across the board to get their break, but in gospel, it is even harder," he explained. "There are only three gospel stations in the country that are known for playing only gospel, and after knowing how hard you work, it can be very disappointing, but I leave that to the father. I see a big door opening that no man can shut." The emerging artiste kick-started the new year on a high at the annual Genesis gospel concert in Portmore, where he performed several songs from his debut album. shereita.grizzle@gleanerjm.com
