CEDRIC STEWART, chief executive officer, Caymanas Track Limited (CTL), last Wednesday lauded McKay Security Limited for its continued sponsorship of the first race meet of the season, which he described as no easy feat in trying economic times. McKay Security Limited, on Wednesday, renewed its New Year's Day sponsorship of the divided McKay Security Trophy race - two events run over 1820 metres - offering purse money of $750,000 each to the lowest group of horses at Caymanas Park. Jason McKay, chief executive officer, McKay Security Limited, pointed to his firm being at Caymanas Park since 1994, a business which he felt obligated to support, having learnt and earned from the location. top security "McKay is now among the top-five security companies in Jamaica due, in part, to what we have learnt and earned from Caymanas Park," he said. "We started sponsoring this race in 2001 to give the small man a derby-like purse of $1m for the lowest group of horses. It is intended to give back to the people on the ground. "The concept was to have one race offering a million dollars, but the response has been so overwhelming, year after year, that the racing office is pressed, in consultation with the trainers associations, to divide the race into two sections, each offering purses of $750,000," he explained. Fan Appreciation Stewart pointed out that McKay Security made it even easier for New Year's Day to be declared Fan Appreciation Day at Caymanas Park, where there will be free soup and free entry to the grandstand and clubstand areas at the racetrack, in addition to discounted prices on food and drink. "The fact that McKay Security is contracted here and puts back into racing is a good thing. We have many other contractors here who have not done so, and I really hope they would take a cue from McKay," he said. - JIMMIE |
