GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

A 29-year-old construction worker of Alston in Clarendon is to reappear in the Spalding Resident Magistrates Court on Tuesday to answer to a charge of assault occasioning grevious bodily harm.

Sheldon 'Yougi' Sampson is before the courts after he allegedly beat a pregnant woman and knocked her unconscious, causing her to have a miscarriage.

According to police reports, on September 16 this year, Sampson went to the pregnant woman's house at Morgan's District near Alston and damaged items. It is understood that the woman reported the matter to the police the same day and returned home.

It is alleged that the woman was attacked by the accused that afternoon and beaten with a stone, rendering her unconscious, causing her to lose her five-month pregnancy as a result of injuries she received.

The police reports that several attempts made thereafter to apprehend Sampson failed, as he managed to elude the law officers.

The police say that on December 15, he was spotted by a traffic cop in the town of Spaldings, attempting to board a taxi. He was accosted by the cop, taken in and subsequently charged.

Sampson was brought before the judge on December 17 and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
