St Catherine FA seeks major league title sponsor

After the start of the 2014/2015 season of the St Catherine Major League and Division One, the league is still searching for a title sponsor.

"We don't get any sponsorship as yet. We don't have what it takes to run the league so we are still negotiating," Football Association, president, Peter Reid, told Star Sports.

Despite the financial difficulties the parish association is facing, the SCFA boss is confident they will have a successful season.

"We expect a successful season. The clubs in the major league and division one are raring to go. The result was a good start to what is to come," he said.

"The challenges will only make us stronger and the clubs will rise to the occasion and make the league exciting and one that people always look forward to," he said.

In the opening games at the Prison Oval last Friday, beaten major league finalist, Newlands, already shaping up to be contenders for the title, and led by goals from Adrian King and Theo Brown, cruised by Albion 3-0.

Dunbeholden and Federal United battled to a 2-2 draw in the division one opener.

Portmore United also made a promising start to their campaign, blanking Naggo Head 3-0 at Naggo Head with goals from Paul Wilson, Levaughn Williams, and Sue-lee McCalla.

In other games, Christian Pen turned back Portsmouth 2-1, Royal Lakes beat Police 1-0, New Raiders lost 2-0 to Old Harbour Bay, Tru-Juice defeated Dela-Vega City 2-0, while Frazsiers Whip drew 0-0 with GC Foster.

In the division one, Windsor Lion edged Flamingo 2-1, Bodles and Cumberland drew 1-1, Watson Grove and Benbow also ended 1-1, while East Portmore and Travelers finished goalless.

The Happy Sutherland KO semi-finals take place this Wednesday at the Prison Oval with the two giants of the parish, Portmore United and Rivoli United, squaring off in the featured game at 6 p.m.

In the first semi-final at 4 p.m., Frazsiers Whip take on last season beaten finalist Old Harbour Bay United.
