Now i am better off without him

Dear Pastor,

I have been reading your column since I was about 13. I got pregnant with my son shortly after I left high school. I ended up having three sons for the same person. I asked him to marry me. he told me he would not while living in a rented house. pastor, he married someone else and is now living in a rented house. I am now in a better position than he and his wife. he is always borrowing from people.

I sent my boys to college. they are in good jobs and living well. His wife's child went to prison for stealing. She did not have kids by him, but he married her and treated my kids badly.

I would like these young girls in Jamaica to hold their head high. Even if they are looked down on in life, they will be better one day. I never grew up with my father or mother. There were days I went to school without lunch money or bus fare. I had to walk to and from school. nobody knew that I was hungry.

I am a Christian and know God always brings his people through. I have been living by myself for 21 years and have taken good care of myself on my own. I have my home in Jamaica but I live in America.

Congratulations to you. Thank God, you have done well. Yes, you suffered at the hands of your children's father. He was heartless. He behaved as if he did not know God would have taken care of you. He did not love you but, even if he didn't, he should have loved his children. He left them to suffer, but God was always by your side.

When you asked him to marry you, he used the same foolish argument that I have heard many men use, that they are not getting married and live in a rented house. Some of them, trying to build their homes for years while the women wait on them. some, as soon as the houses are built, say to the mothers of their children that they are not moving them into the new houses. Some guys are just wicked.

Your children's father left you and married to another woman. when he did so he had to live in a house that he rented. So, you see, the man was just a bag of mouth and did not love you enough to marry you. I repeat, God was with you. I know your children love you. They will not abandon you. Keep strong and continue to serve your God.
