A 45-year-old taxi driver who was abducted on Sunday was later found dead with multiple gunshot wounds.

He has been identified as 45-year-old Junior Lee 'Rider' Hines of a Clarendon address. Hines was found dead in the New Bowens area of Hayes, Clarendon, with multiple gunshots wounds, some time after 8 p.m., beside his white Toyota Corolla taxi motor car, in an isolated area of the community. He was found after residents heard gunshots and called the police.

President of the Vere Taxi Association, Frederick Bryan, said Hines had returned to the service for two months after a long lay-off, and the news was devastating to the association.

"He used to operate a delivery truck but the unit is down, so he told me that since he didn't have anything to do, he was filling in for awhile."

Following a spate of robberies and killing of transport operators in Clarendon, Superintendent Carol McKenzie has warned public-transport operators to be vigilant and not pick up parties of all-male passengers.

Within the last couple of weeks, transport operators have either been robbed or killed in Clarendon.
