A woman accused of beating her child with a board containing nails had her bail extended when she appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with cruelty to a child is a 28-year-old woman from a Kingston 14 address.

Allegations are that on November 30, the complainant, who is the accused woman's daughter, was allegedly hit with a piece of board, which had nails protruding from it, all over her body. She is believed to have ran for refuge at her aunt's house. It is believed that child suffered bruises, swelling and pain to her head, face, nose, and feet following the alleged attack.

Consequently, the police were summoned and the accused woman was arrested and charged.

The court heard that the child was reportedly misbehaving in a manner that was unbecoming for someone of her age.

"If your daughter is doing something that is outlandish, you cannot bring the worst kind of treatment on her," Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said.

In court, the accused had her bail extended by RM Pusey until February 27, pending a mention hearing, allowing time for the completion and presentation of a probation report.
