No bail for 21-y-o murder suspect

Jolyn Bryan, Star Writer

A woman accused of murder was unable to take up a bail offer made in the St Thomas Circuit Court because of errors on her birth certificate.

Tamika Scott, 21, of Airy Castle in the parish, was remanded last Thursday after a stop order could not be completed.

Bail was offered in the amount of $400,000 and later reduced to $250,000, with Scott's documents surrendered and a stop order placed on her. Additional conditions were imposed which stated that Scott must live in St Catherine and report to the Point Hill police on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Scott is accused of the murder of 19-year-old Rhian Champagnie, a labourer, also of Airy Castle.

Allegations are that Scott and Champagnie were involved in a dispute on October 26, 2012. A fight ensued and Champagnie was stabbed. He succumbed to his injuries.

Scott was arrested on November 3, 2012 and charged. She is expected to return to court on December 18.
