Spanish Town Titans were crowned champions of the third annual Jamaica Premier League Twenty20 competition after defeating Ocho Rios Chargers by four wickets in the final at Treasure Beach Sports Complex yesterday.

Set a modest 135 to win, the Titans achieved their target for the loss of six wickets with four balls to spare with Jamaica opener Shacaya Thomas, 34, and Tamar Lambert, 29, leading the way.

This was against fast bowler Brian Buchanan, who claimed three for 36, and leg-spinner Kemar Allen, who ended with two for eight. Earlier, the Chargers, who were asked to take first strike, compiled 134 for seven off their allotted overs.

National opener, John Campbell, 30, and Odane Hutchinson 20, made most runs against former Jamaica Under-19 off-spin all-rounder, Pete Salmon, three for 22, and leg-spinner Odean Brown, two for nine.

"It was a good performance on our part, one that was worthy of us in the final," said Titans captain, Danza Hyatt. "We first did well in the field, and, I believe it was from there that we won the match."

Campbell said his team tried, but were let down by faulty batting, and panic in the field.

"Going into the final I said that I was not worried about our top-order batting, it was our middle to lower order, and it happened again," he surmised. "We got off to a good start, but then we did not capitalise. We should have scored about 160 runs after I got out.

"We then panicked in the field by giving away some silly singles, and overthrows."

Brown, whose bowling figures came off his maximum four overs, and made 12 not out towards the end, was named Man-of-the-Match.

The Man-of-the-Tournament award went to Salmon.
