Telecommunications company LIME, courtesy of its LIME Foundation, will be committing to another invaluable effort to raise funds for the Bustamante Hospital for Children, through their second staging of the 6K Run/Walk scheduled for Fort Clarence Beach, Portmore, St Catherine, on January 18, at 6:30 a.m.

Aptly themed 'Run For The Children,' it is organised against the backdrop of giving financial assistance to children who are victims of paediatric cancer and their families.

With at least 25 kids being diagnosed with cancer each year, and families lacking financial support, the foundation will establish a fund to help offset their treatment.

Lime Foundation Executive Chairman, Errol Miller, highlighted the thrust to support victims (children), parents and their caregivers at Wednesday's press launch.

financial burdens

The event was launched at the Barbican Beach in St Andrew.

"We decided to throw our support behind families and assist with treatment for youngsters with cancer, whose parents or care-givers cannot afford to pay," said Miller.

He added that the financial burdens associated with treating patients often devastate families, whose main support system often faces life-changing consequences.

Senior Medical Officer of the Bustamante Hospital for Children, Michelle-Ann Richards-Dawson, outlined that LIME's continued support is greatly appreciated.

"Recognising that a lot of our kids (at the Bustamante Hospital for Childrenl) need help, we feel proud to be affiliated with LIME from last year. Their 6K focused on assisting our children in need, and we thank them," she outlined.

excellent outcome

Also speaking at the press launch, Richards-Dawson lauded corporate Jamaica for its support. "We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to the race and an excellent outcome," she continued.

Meanwhile, Portmore councillor, Claude Hamilton, extended support and cordial greetings on behalf of the Sunshine City.

"We are overjoyed that LIME came on board and chose our city," he said. "As a sporting event and worthy cause, this will cause people to look on Portmore.

For the January 18 event, participants can sign up online at www.runningeventsja.com.

At LIME stores in Sovereign Centre, Portmore Mall or on Half-Way Tree Road.

The cost for adults is $1,000. Entry fees for teams of 50 is $800, while kids pay $200 each.
