Police/military sting leads to arrests

Another illegal weapon and seven rounds of ammunition were seized during a joint police/military operation in Adelaide Avenue, Kingston, on Wednesday. Seven men, including one wanted man, were also taken into police custody.

At 2:30 pm, police from the Kingston East Division, Mobile Reserve, Caribbean Search Centre and members of the Jamaica Defence Force were conducting operations on Adelaide Avenue in Kingston east, in search of wanted men and illegal weapons and ammunition.

A Beretta 9mm pistol, seven live rounds and one spent shell, were found hidden under the roof.

During further search of the premises, a stash of cellular phones, military fatigue and a black trench coat were found under the house. Seven persons, including a man wanted by the Kingston East police, were taken into custody.

The police, in partnership with the military, will continue to carry out these operations during the festive season in an effort to maintain law and order, reassure citizens, and restore peace and safety in communities.

Citizens are being urged to report wanted and suspicious persons to the police immediately. They may call Crime Stop at 311, 811, police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station, to report a crime.
