Man slashes bus conductor's throat

An outstanding post-mortem report in a murder case presented in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court led to the accused being remanded in court on Wednesday.

Charged with murder is Clive Barnett, who was ordered to be fingerprinted.

The Crown alleges that on January 28, 2012, the deceased man, a bus conductor, was stabbed at the base of his throat and later died at the Kingston Public Hospital.

According to the Crown, the deceased went to deliver the day's earnings to his employer, who took him home. The accused arrived at the scene and an altercation developed between the bus conductor and Barnett.

The accused allegedly used a knife to cut the throat of the deceased.

In court, the police opposed bail for Barnett, claiming that he fled the scene shortly after the incident and had been missing since.

Barnett is to return to court on January 21, 2015 when it is expected that the report will be ready. He is also to be interviewed for legal aid.
