Damell 'Digging Deep' for the hits

St Ann-based singer/songwriter Damell is totally committed to music. He feels compelled to bring the songs that are conceived in his mind to life by putting them on record.

"In the past, I have voiced six tunes in one day, songs just come to me, appear inna mi head and mi just sing and voice. Music is a mission for me, a just that alone me do, anytime yuh see me, a sing me a sing," the 18 year-old artiste said.

Damell, real name Damell Williams, started singing at a tender age while going to church and distinguished himself as a member of the Sunday School choir.

As a teenager, he attended Ocho Rios High School, where he joined the school choir. Practising daily, he gained a passion for music and decided to make it his official career once he left high school and migrated to St Kitts.

"I never liked over in St Kitts so I decided to come back to do music in 2011, and from that, a music mi a do straight," he said.

big break

In 2013, Damell got a big break when his single, Whine Yuh Waist, was featured on the Hot Pursuit rhythm which was produced by Carlington 'Out A Road' Wilmot. He was featured alongside other popular artistes like Konshens, Darrio and Tiana. The song got a lot of airplay locally and overseas.

He has released a follow-up single called Digging Deep on the Touch Out rhythm for Touch Out Records, Damell's own label.

"The feedback on YouTube to Digging Deep has been excellent, mi just need a strength to get it more radio play and on mix tapes in Kingston," he said.
