People's Opinion

A testimonial from a transgender person, as well as washing the feet of two lesbians during a church service at the Christ Church in Vineyard Town, St Andrew, has set many Jamaicans tongues wagging.

Last Sunday morning, resident Anglican priest, Father Sean Major-Campbell, welcomed members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community into the place of worship, as he gave his sermon.

In the THE STAR's People's Opinion feature, shop operator Anthony 'Tony' Leon, more popularly known as 'Soupy', or the 'Soup Man', sought to provide his thoughts on the matter.

"It's against God's law. I don't think it is right for homosexuals to go into the church. I don't believe inna it. That's why Christ did bun down Sodom and Gomorrah. I don't believe inna it," Leon said.

"Mi believe say the pastor shoulda move from the church. Mi woulda call fi him removal because yu supposed to set example, so that other members of the church supposed to can do good. So if you do bad, it a go look bad pon the other rest a people dem inna di church."

Soupy, who hails from Red Hills Road, Kingston 19, has been at his Red Hills Road location for over a decade, selling soup and corn, while operating a small shop.

Stay tuned for next week's segment of the People's Opinion, where the public voice their sentiments on varying topical issues.
