Fake cooking gas businessman fined big sum |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A St Catherine man who pleaded guilty to selling fictitiously labelled cooking gas was fined a total of $500,000 for the Breaches Trademark Act. He is Donovan Bartley, businessman of Braeton, Portmore, St Catherine. For the charge of unlawful use of trademark, he was fined $250,000 or 30 days; and, $250,000 or 30 days' hard labour for misleading and deceptive conduct. He was told that the money would have to be paid in full before he would be released. The court heard that on November 12, 2014 personnel from IGL were conducting investigations in Braeton. A truck owned by Bartley was observed laden with cylinders of gas labelled IGL. Further checks revealed that the cylinders did not bear the required seal. A report was made to the Organised Crime Investigation Division and a probe by constable Richard Daley resulted in Bartley being charged. |
