Mico take Intercol double |

Raymond Graham, Star Writer Mico University College proved to be the best Intercollegiate football team for the second year in a row, as their male and female teams retained titles after victories over their opponents at separate venues on Friday. It was a clean sweep for the Vassell Reynolds-coached team in the male category, following success earlier this season over the University of Technology to capture the Greg Garell Knockout title. In a repeat of last year's Division I final at UTech, they got the better of G.C. Foster College once again with a 2-1 victory. Mico took the lead early with a Kemar Ricketts goal in the third minute of play. The Spanish Town-based team pulled level in the 62nd minute through Darian James. However, former Calabar High Manning Cup player Shane Franklin scored in the 79th minute to give Mico the lead, which they held on to. double header In the first game of the double-header, Knox Community College got the better of Moneague Community College 2-0 to capture the Division II title. Andrew Black (26th) and Aaron Anderson (58th) minute scored for Knox, as both teams will be promoted to Division I next season. National senior player Tashana Vincent continued her fine scoring form this season in helping Mico to a 3-0 win over the University of West Indies in the female finals at the UWI Mona Bowl. The competition's leading goal scorer, Vincent, following her five timer the previous week in the semi-final over Northern Caribbean University, scored in the 65th and 80th minutes. Timmoy Whyte had earlier given Mico the lead in the 17th minutes, as the Xavier Gilbert coached team remained unbeaten for the second year in a row. |
