Two on murder rap to face court February 25

WESTERN BUREAU:

Two men charged in connection with the 2011 murder of St James resident, Christopher Eccleston, will have their case mentioned in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on February 25 next year.

Harold Jackson and Jovan Myrie, both from Montego Bay, had their bails extended on Friday, after clerk of the court Natalie Malcolm indicated that their matter should be tried in the Circuit Court.

"In respect of the murder matter, I spoke to defence counsels, Mr Morrel Beckford and M. Trevor Ho Lyn, concerning evidence being taken in this court," Malcolm addressed presiding magistrate Carolyn Tie.

"In retrospect, I think it would be better for the matter to be heard in the Circuit Court," Malcolm added.

The case was subsequently set for February 25, 2015, when a determination will be made in how the matter will proceed.

Jackson and Myrie were charged in the July 2011 murder of Eccleston in Westgate Hills, Montego Bay, in which the victim and another man were pounced upon by gunmen and shot several times. Eccleston was subsequently pronounced dead at hospital, while the second man died sometime in early 2012.
