Walking by faith

Andre Thorpe

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Name: André Thorpe

Church: Broadgate Seventh Day Adventist Church in St Mary.

Position: Deacon, Sabbath school teacher and music co-coordinator.

How long have you been saved? Over ten years.

Your moment of conviction: It was the time in my life when I was transitioning from fifth form to sixth form, and they were having an evangelistic campaign, and I visited. Funny enough, I actually visited. Before that, I never had much interest in church. I used to get invitations and never used to turn up.

Most challenging moment since being saved: Being a Christian, especially as a young person, there are many temptations. I got baptised when I was still in high school, and I had a lot of friends, and they were doing things. To break some of the habits that I previously had was difficult, but I guess it boils down to if you try to break it on your own, you will never be successful, but if God is there to lead you, you can overcome the challenges faced.

Most miraculous moment since being saved: I remember I had a condition and went to the dentist. I was then sent to a specialist and had an x-ray done. When it was done, it showed that four teeth in the top row at the front had no supporting bone structure and the tissues were all destroyed. The recommendation was that I had to do an extraction of the four teeth, and I would have had to do implants. I went back to the dentist a few months after and was there contemplating. I eventually, went and did an impression to do the extractions and implants eventually. Each time I was supposed to do it, I stayed away, but eventually about eight months later, which was August of this year I went to the dentist, and when the dentist took up my docket with all the information, she asked another person if it was the correct docket, because when they had done an examination, it was discovered that I had no need to do the extractions anymore, and here I am not having to do any extraction. That, I consider to be a miracle.

Message to Christians: Depend on God. Many times we say we are Christians, but we do not exercise the faith we can, so we need to depend more on God and exercise faith and hold fast to Him.

Message to non-christians: You might consider a Christian's life to be boring; and you might say you cannot manage all these things; but my message to you is that you should give Jesus a chance and you will probably see some of the things I have experienced in terms of miracles, the transformation, among other things. It can be done for you if you depend on Him.

Favourite Bible verse: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Favourite song:Great Is Thy faithfulness.
