Saving their best for last, Manning Cup heavyweights - St George's College (STGC) ended their 2013-14 schoolboy football season on a high note when they came out at the right end of a thrilling 3-2 win over Manning and LIME Super Cup champions Jamaica College (JC) in the ISSA/LIME Walker Cup final yesterday.

The clash, which took place at the Constant Spring football field, began with history at stake. STGC were seeking a ninth hold on the Walker Cup, while JC were hunting an unprecedented four titles this season.

It was the North Street - based school which drew first blood however, when Davonte Brown opened the scoring in the 11th minute.Gregory Messam Jr doubled that advantage by firing home from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, ending the season with eight goals.

Talisman Amoy Brown gifted St George's an emphatic three-goal cushion in the 43rd minute, for his 18th goal of the season.

"I feel really great and pleased to score and win today," he said. The player added that he will be pursuing an overseas football scholarship.

While St Georges' looked the more confident and classy team in the first half, they struggled to survive an all out JC attack in the second. JC pulled a goal back in the 45th minute through Junior Flemmings from the penalty spot. The prolific striker added a brilliant header in the 90th minute, but it was too late for the league champions.

Coach Neville Bell was elated with the win.

"St GC has won the most Walker Cups," he said. "We win all the time because we are confident. I couldn't ask for more here today (yesterday) from my boys."

Meanwhile, Jamaica College's assistant coach, Delroy Brown, expressed disappointment with the result.

"We gave up easy goals that put us under pressure in the first half," he noted. "We (JC) wanted to create history, but didn't get it."

Yesterday's result meant St Georges College and Jamaica College are equal on 45 schoolboy football titles.
