JC, STGC in Walker Cup showdown |
|||||
Miguel Coley Neville Bell Robert Bailey, Star Writer Reigning Manning Cup champions Jamaica College (JC) will seeking their third title of the season when they take on St George's College in today's final of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/LIME Walker Cup knockout competition. The match, which will be played at the Constant Spring Sports Complex, is set to start at 2:30 p.m. JC, who are unbeaten in all competitions this season, captured their second title of season last Saturday, when they defeated Charlie Smith 2-1 in extra-time to retain their Manning Cup title. The Miguel Coley-coached unit, which also won the LIME Super Cup a few weeks ago, is oozing with confidence ahead of today's encounter. However, they will face a very dangerous St George's team, which has been resting for the past three weeks and who are also very confident ahead of today's clash. "It will be a very competitive game," said Coley. "But, we at Jamaica College, we pride ourselves on finding a way to win every single time that we go on to the field." "Our aim is to win four titles and so we just have to go out there and give it our best on the day," Coley added. JC will rest their hopes in the hands of leading scorer Junior Flemmings, who has netted 21 goals this season and Rafique Bryan, who netted the winning goal in the Manning Cup final last week. On the other hand, the Georgians, who have been having an up-and-down season, failed to progress to the semi-final of the Manning Cup, for the first time in four years. The Neville 'Bertis' Bell - coached team, secured their place in the Walker Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Charlie Smith. The North Street-based school will be depending heavily on the likes of their leading scorer Amoy Brown, who was top scorer in the LIME Super Cup. He is expected to receive valuable support from Shevon Stewart, Alex Marshall, Akeem Prawl and Devonte Francis.
