Reggae singer Tom Laing is all smiles as his career continues to move in an upward direction.

The New York-based singer received major props from veteran broadcaster Barrington Gordon, aka Barry G, last Friday for his cover of the Gregory Issacs classic Front Door.

Laing was a special guest on Gordon's ultra-popular afternoon radio programme called The Barry Show on Mello FM.

During the interview which lasted well over 20 minutes, the soft-spoken singer reminisced about his childhood days growing up in Trench Town and his interactions with a number of reggae greats, including Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Ken Boothe and Gregory Isaacs.

After playing Laing's version of Front Door several times during the interview, Barry G exclaimed that it sounded as good as the original.

The legendary radio jock also compared Laing's vocal skills to that of the late 5eggae icon's.

"The interview with Barry G was awesome, it was a really good vibes. I've been told my version of Front Door is very good before, but to hear someone like Barry G say it is really great, I feel very humbled and blessed," said the artiste.

Tom Laing's version of Front Door was recorded at his New York-based Top Tier Recording Studio and released on his Top Tier imprint in October.

Since then, it has been enjoying heavy rotation in Jamaica and the New York Tri-State area. "The response to this song is so amazing. A lot of people love it. I'm getting calls, text messages and emails from people all over the world expressing how much they love it."

The video, shot and directed by Wayne Benjamin, is enjoying heavy rotation on a number of local TV stations.

"The response to the video is great. It is currently in the number nine spot on the Pree Dis TV Show Top 10 Chart."

In order to bolster the already growing popularity of the song, Laing and his promotional team are doing a lot of work in New York and Jamaica.

"My whole team has been working overtime on this project, we are doing everything to make it a major success. I believe this song has the potential to be a massive hit," he said.
