Romario Campbell's goal, the second of the night, to give Waterhouse a 2-0 win over Cavalier and extend their lead at the top of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) table to six points, was a special one for him.

The 24-year-old national representative had played four matches previously for his club this season and had not scored. On Monday night though, he did not have a choice.

"I feel wonderful about this strike. It is my son's birthday and I promised him that I would score a goal for him on his birthday, so I just came out here and executed," said Campbell, whose goal came in minute 90+2, just three minutes away from the expiration of the five minutes of time added.

Tramaine Stewart opened the scoring with a beauty in the fifth minute.

Campbell's pronouncement was punctuated with a broad grin and a rub of the seven-year-old, who had turned up to receive his gift.

Romario Jr, his father said, is also a left-footer, who lists the gifted Argentinean Lionel Messi as his favourite player.

Outside of his special moment, Campbell said overall it was a good performance by the team.

"It was a good performance overall by the team. It was a tough game, but a game away from home is always going to be a tough one and I think we stood up to the task. We came out here, fought hard and won," said Campbell, who along with teammates Hughan Gray, Nicoli Finlayson and Upstan Edwards were part of Jamaica's successful CFU Men's Caribbean Cup squad.

Those players did not totally overrun the opposition and light up Stadium East, but Campbell said the Caribbean Cup raised his game.

"It was a good experience for me even though I only played one game. I sat on the bench most of the time and observed, watched the high tempo and got the understanding.

"It is a learning experience for me, so I am using it as stepping stone to see what I can take into my game, carry to the Premier League to see if I can help my team score some goals and win the championship," he explained.
