Mindley plots another good impression

Marquino Mindley

Having made an impressive start to his first-class career, teenage fast bowler Marquino Mindley is looking forward to making another good impression when Jamaica Franchise take on Barbados Pride in the WICB four-day Professional League.

To be played at Windward Sports Club in Barbados, starting today, the encounter will be the second for Jamaica in the 10-match long tournament.

"After playing for West Indies Under-19s at two Youth World Cups, I had visions of playing first-class cricket," said Mindley, who, on debut last weekend, claimed five for 35 in the first innings against Windwards Volcanoes at Sabina Park.

"However, I did not expect to play so early. I was looking to play when the Jerome Taylors, Sheldon Cottrells and Andre Russells were not around.

"Now that I have the opportunity, I intend to grab it with two hands, push forward, as I want to finish the season with as much wickets as possible."

The 19-year-old, who ended with none for 28 in the second innings, is expected to again spearhead Jamaica's bowling attack against the Barbadians.

This time, however, it is expected that his new ball partner will be Jerome Taylor, who, having requested permission to miss the opening game, is available.

Young fast bowler Keno Wallace, who also made his debut against the Windwards, is expected to make way.

Also set to play lead roles with the ball are all-rounder David Bernard Jr, left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, and leg-spinner Damion Jacobs, who claimed seven for 72 in the second innings against the Volcanoes.

The team, in the meanwhile, will be hoping for improved batting displays from young batsmen Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Shacaya Thomas and John-Ross Campbell.

Tamar Lambert, Bernard Jr, Carlton Baugh Jr and Miller, completes the team's other batting options.

Barbados, having taken first innings over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, will look to Kraigg Brathwaite to lead their batting.

Brathwaite slammed 182 in their opener, and along with Dwayne Smith, Jonathan Carter and Ryan Hinds, represent batsmen with international experience in their team.

Fast bowlers Kemar Roach and Jason Holder, all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, and off-spinner Ashley Nurse, are set to lead their bowling.
