Massive guns, ammunition seizure

Three firearms and over 50 rounds of ammunition were seized by the police and 12 suspects were taken into custody, in three separate incidents within a three-hour period on Wednesday.

In the first incident, about 12 p.m., police attached to the Granville Police Station signalled a minibus driver to stop along the Fairfield main road in St James. A search of the bus revealed a Taurus 9 mm pistol in a knapsack. Two minors were taken into custody in connection with the find.

Less than two hours later, also in the parish of St James, a police team attached to the Barrett Town Police Station was on patrol in the Wagon Wheel district when they came upon a group of men. On seeing the police, the men ran and one of the men dropped an object. The police retrieved the object and found it to be a 9mm Taurus pistol with a magazine containing eleven 9mm rounds of ammunition. The man was later taken into custody. Further investigations resulted in the search of premises where 13 additional 9mm rounds of ammunition were found along with documents relating to lottery scam. Two men were taken into custody.

The third seizure took place about 2:45 p.m., during a joint police military operation in the

Richmond Road area, St Ann's Bay. Lawmen were carrying out a spot check when two vehicles were pulled over. One Saiga semi-automatic rifle with two magazines containing twenty-six 7.62 rounds of cartridges was seized. Seven males were taken into custody.
