|
Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter A bus conductor and a higgler involved in a case and cross case of assault had a fine imposed and had the matter set for trial when they appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. Charged with unlawful wounding is higgler Raymond Welsh who pleaded not guilty to the offence. Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is bus conductor Clayton Robinson who pleaded guilty. The court heard that on the day of the incident in August, Welsh allegedly believed that Robinson should pay him money for 'running' his bus. It is believed that upon refusal to pay over any funds to Welsh, Robinson was stabbed in his back by Welsh as a result. It is believed that Robinson fled the scene thereafter. Sometime later, it is believed that Robinson spotted Welsh, and punched him in his face in what is believed to be revenge. "What do you do for work Sir?" Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked Welsh. "Mi sell inna the market downtown with mi mother from mi little bit till now," Welsh replied. Subsequently, RM Pusey ordered Robinson to pay a fine of $5,000 or serve six months in prison for the assault charge. Welsh was ordered to return to court on January 27 next year for trial. Both accused had fingerprint orders made against them. |
