Court date set for fraud case involving US citizen

A mention date has been set in a matter in which a woman is accused of defrauding a foreigner of hundreds of US dollars.

Charged with obtaining money by false pretence is Stacy-Ann Duckett.

The Crown alleges, that the complainant who resides in the United States was in search of a furnished house in Jamaica. The complainant discovered an advertisement in the press which led him to rent a house in Portmore, St Catherine. The complainant then contacted the accused and was given directions by the female caller, Duckett.

He then sent $572 via Western Union and made several calls to the accused, who did not answer.

A further allegation by the Crown claims the woman met the accused on a dating website.

The complainant later came to the island and made a report with the police who was later arrested and charged Duckett.
