![]() Contributed - Anita Antoinette Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter Jamaica-born singer/songwriter Anita Antoinette is creating waves as she inches closer to victory, securing a spot in the top-12 live performances round of 'The Voice' show last Wednesday. As the series progresses, Antoinette, who is a part of Gwen Stefani's team, employs a mixture of breathtaking vocals, striking looks and her captivating personality to capture the hearts of celebrity coaches and the audience alike. Shortly after her stirring rendition of Meghan Trainor's All About The Bass, the self-taught singer and guitarist told THE STAR about her journey through the competition thus far. "The process has been interesting in that, every time I perform, I still have little doubts because I'm overcoming the stage fright and trying to gain confidence, but its almost like a dream. I'm taking it in, the coaches have been amazing and have been giving me great feedback and really trying to instil that confidence," she said. The musician is humbled by being able to identify with Jamaicans and the Jamaican brand. "Honestly, I'm so happy I'm Jamaican! I was happy before, but I'm even happier now. It's just so wonderful to see my home country supporting me and having my back, its unbelievable," she explained. Antoinette was born in Kingston before moving to the United States at age eight. Tessanne Chin serves as an inspiration to her. "I remember seeing one of her music videos when I was maybe around 14 or somthing like that, and, you know, the minute I saw it I was, like, wow, she's gonna be a superstar. Fast-forward to a couple years, to see her branching out and becoming global, I'm just so proud of her and again, that's just a little taste of our little island. I'm really happy to be cut from the same cloth at this point. We're different in terms of artistry and our voices are different, our approach to music is a little different, but, nonetheless, we come from the same place, and I'm just so happy for her."
