Trinidad and Tobago last night defeated French Guiana 4-2 at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in their penultimate match in Group A of the 2014 CFU Men's Caribbean Cup, and booked a spot in the next edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup to be held in the United States in 2015.

As a result, the Soca Warriors are also a point away from a return the final and chance of winning a ninth Caribbean title.

They did so with a brace from midfielder turn striker Kevin Molino in the 17th and 60th minutes, respectively, his second and third goal of the championship, while one goal each from Ataulla Guerra and Lester Peltier completed victory.

French Guiana got their goals from Brian St Clair in the 64th minute and from Jean David Legrand in minute 84.

It was the Soca Warrior's second straight victory of the tournament to move six points and to within touching distance of the final. French Guiana are on a single point after two matches.

winning the title

"We said it was our intention to get to the Gold Cup then we would think about getting to the final to have a chance of winning the title, so one piece of the puzzle is in place," Stephen Hart, the Trinidad coach said in the post match press conference.

"The team played well but again we gave up two goals, but Molino is what I would call a very modern striker. He does everything and his work-rate is very impressive also," he added.

Molino gave Trinidad the lead in just the 17th minute, beating Rudy Merille to his left.

Molino notched his second in the sixth minute to give Trinidad a 2-0 lead.

Lester Peltier made it 3-0 for Trinidad, when he fired home from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, after referee Sandy Vasquez Vargas sent off defender Marvin Torvic of French Guiana for bringing down Molino inside the area.

But their lapse in concentration resurfaced and French Guiana found themselves back in the contest when on 64 minutes St Clair beat Marvin Phillip in the Trinidad goal to slice the deficit at 1-3.

Then Legrand curled a free-kick around the two-man wall and beyond the reach of the goal keeper to make the score 3-2, before Guearra sealed the deal for the Trinidad with his goal in the second minute of time added on.
