WEEPING WAUGH!

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A man who can aptly be described as theatrical wept openly in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday after being ordered to spend a short period of time in lock-up during proceedings.

Involved in a cross case are Michael Waugh, 44, of Delacree Lane, Kingston 11, and 48-year-old Julia Boyd, of the same address. Both accused are charged with unlawful wounding.

Allegations are that, on August 4 at approximately 4 p.m., the two reportedly got into a dispute that turned physical when both persons inflicted wounds on each other. It is believed that the pair had an ongoing dispute regarding a fence parting their homes which are on the same property.

A weeping Waugh told the court that he is an innocent man who was provoked by Boyd. During his pleas to Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, Waugh insisted on referring to her as "Mama", much to the displeasure of the magistrate.

After being frequently told by court officials to address the magistrate as 'Your Honour', the man was chided by RM Pusey, who threateningly stated that he would be ordered remanded if he did not respect her wishes to be addressed satisfactorily.

Waugh, however, could not seem to contain himself as he created a spectacle in the courtroom, shedding tears as he proclaimed his innocence in the matter. So distraught, Waugh disregarded the sitting magistrate's warnings and referred to her as "Mama" once more before being ordered to spend a short while in lock-up.

Subsequently, when the matter was called up again, Waugh returned even more distressed than he had left.

RM Pusey ordered the pair to return to court on January 15, 2015, for trial.
