Maintaining Christian integrity

Lackett Cuffe

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Name: Lackett Cuffe

Church: Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.

Position: Elder

When did you get saved? I have been a member of the church since June 1967.

Tell us about the moment you got your conviction: I grew up in a Christian family, so it was the norm for us to go to church from we were small. I got baptised at the age of nine.

most challenging moment since becoming a Christian: Once you accept Christ as your personal Saviour, there are usually challenges. There is nothing to suggest that acceptance of Christ means that it will be all smooth going. The challenge usually comes in terms of maintaining your Christian integrity and practising Christian principles. As always, there will be temptations; and it depends on how one deals with the temptations. They can be dealt with through the study of the word, keeping close to Christ and ensuring that you fill your life with positive things. Once you are a Christian, persons see you as perfect, and you are not a human, so to speak. They do not expect you to make mistakes. Sometimes, there are criticisms and persons will say things that they cannot substantiate and want to make you look bad. So those are usually the challenges, but you have to ensure that you maintain your Christian integrity.

Miraculous event in your life: My entire life is a miracle. The fact that I grew up to be a teacher is testimony of the fact that God can create miracles. I was one of those who was categorised as one who would not have come out to anything. So the fact that I am a teacher is a miracle in itself. The challenges that I have, had to surmount my life - I have done all types of works in my life time; from pushing hand cart, selling shaved ice, working in construction as a common labourer, running robot taxi, being an informal commercial importer, being a painter; I have done almost everything, and so I see those as miracles.

Message to Christians: Those who have taken on the challenges of Christ need to first recognise that there is not going to be a feathery bed of roses.Walking with Christ will bring about challenges. Once you have moved away from the kingdom of the devil, he is going to be coming after you, so you will have to recognise that you have to stay close to the Lord, study His word daily, seek to walk in His precepts, avoid individuals who are not positive; and ensure that you hold on to Christ. You also need to recognise that the Christian life be lived and lived for Christ.

Message to non-Christians: The best thing to do is to give your life to Christ. I have recognised that since I have given my life to Christ, he has been my guide, he has been my protector, He is my provider; and if He has called me, then the rest is up to Him to take care of me. He has never failed me yet. I was young, and now I am old, and I have never seen the Christian forsaken or his seed begging bread.

Favourite book of the Bible: 3 John 3.

Favourite line of one of your favourite songs: "Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus."
