Accused murderers get bail extension
Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU: The two men charged in connection with the 2011 murder of St James resident, Christopher Eccleston, had their bail extended in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday, as the prosecution's case file was still incomplete.

Harold Jackson and Jovan Myrie, both from Montego Bay, had their case set for mention on November 21, after presiding magistrate Ann-Marie Granger was told that the prosecution had not yet got the forensic certificate to add to its case file.

Jackson and Myrie were charged in the July 2011 murder of Eccleston in Westgate Hills, Montego Bay, in which the victim and another man were pounced upon by gunmen and shot several times. Eccleston was subsequently pronounced dead at hospital, while the second man died sometime in early 2012.

Last Friday, Jackson's lawyer, Trevor Ho Lyn, suggested to RM Granger that the case could be set for mention in November, due to the prosecution's file not being ready to take the case to trial.

"This is a file that has been incomplete for some time. Perhaps you could mention it (case) on November 21," said Ho Lyn.

In setting the case for mention, RM Granger admonished the investigating officer to seek the outstanding forensic document in a timely manner.

"The officer is bound over to return to court with the forensic certificate. Please make contact with the forensic laboratory for the certificate," RM Granger said.
