The peoples' opnion - Phone Bill Money Could Have Been Invested

André Williams, STAR Writer

Recently, news surfaced that several Cabinet Ministers had used their government issued cell phones to rack up bills totalling $5 million. Today, THE STAR, with its newest feature, The People's Opinion, asked a member of the public what he thought about the matter. Car Wash operator Richard 'Speedy' Dwyer, 34, a resident of Rose Gardens, Central Kingston, was surprised that cabinet ministers and their juniors racked up cell phone bills totalling $5 million while using their government-issued cellphones.

He told THE STAR:

"A portion of that expense could be better spent on other things. They are government and they get the money free so they do whatever they want to these millions spent on phone bill could be invested in communities to start programmes like sports assist elders who have nothing to eat and those who need help with back to school."

"They need to implement a system that once you don't perform, the money should be withdrawn from their salary," Dwyer proposed.
