Wolmer's flattered by big STGC win |

![]() Wolmer's Boys' coach Ludlow Bernard. MARC STAMP, STAR Writer Wolmer's coach, Ludlow 'Luddy' Bernard, credited the mental preparation of his team and admitted that Saturday's emphatic 3 - 0 LIME Super Cup win over schoolboy football titans St George's College at the National Stadium was a bit flattering. Powered by a Jaheel Hyde brace, Wolmer's made light work of their St George's rivals, advancing to the semi-finals, where they will play against surprise package Holy Trinity High on Saturday. St George's has been playing well and is the most successful team in Manning Cup over the past six years, having won four titles. "It's quite a bit flattering to get such a scoreline against a tough opponent. It could have gone either way," Bernard told STAR Sports yesterday. Bernard also said his coaching and support staff have to be dealing with the mental aspect of the team. "Well, dealing with young adults, we have to manage them in order to deal with the opponents, it is a different mindset with regards to each opponent you are facing," the coach who has been preparing young 'ballers for about two decades disclosed. "We will take it game by game. Our next opponent in the Super Cup is Holy Trinity, so we have to handle the players as well as staff emotions," he added. Before that, Wolmer's will face Haile Selassie High in a critical game in the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup second stage tomorrow at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, starting at 1 p.m. A win for the Heroes Circle-based institution could see them advancing to the semi-finals with a game to play in Group H. "Selassie is a team that I would never underestimate. In 2011, we played them for the first time and rallied from 3-1 down in the last 15 minutes to draw 3-3 at Tinson Pen Play field," Bernard recalled. "The approach to this game will be different in terms of the mental preparation," he added. "We have to take each team a game at a time," Bernard further said. Bernard is quite aware that after picking up a win against Calabar last week in the opening game in the group, another three points could push them closer to a title they have not won since 1994. "It is very important to win the game on Wednesday (tomorrow) and put pressure on the teams that will play each other in the second game of the double header. We need to put pressure on them," Bernard reasoned. |
