Chik-V and the 'Big E' |
|||||
![]() ![]() And the Lord said in the last days there will be plagues, pests, disease in diverse places and rumors of war! Mi might no get the exact quotation right because a mi Sunday school memory mi draw pon but mi know unnu ketch the drift a wah mi a seh! The chik-V or the 'gunyah' as it is now called, has been biting hard and crippling so many sectors of our society. Most places you go, there are long periods of waiting because of short staff. The way it bad mi go a one restaurant last week and to how the 'gunyah' do dem staff cohort bad, dem mek sure put up a sign of apology because of it! Even though the authorities were late and lame in the way the should've attacked the chikungunyah, I think most people are more aware and have joined the fight against this pest on the land. Chikungunyah is an African word which means bent over and the way mi see the people dem a bend and a bawl mi a try mi best fi stay far from it. The way mi serious bout it anytime anybody bringt it up to me, mi rebuke it in Jesus name! Black people Mi grow come hear people a refer to AIDS as the "Big A" weh everybody fraid a but right now it's all about the "Big E", Ebola! It a ravage West Africa and it's just sad to watch thousands die because of this pestilence on the land. Some people have it fi seh is a disease weh dem mek inna one lab fi dash out pon black people, but right now all white people a ketch it! There are so many questions, fears and apprehension surrounding Ebola that even doctors here are fearful should it come to Jamaica. The acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, has said there is no such case in the island contrary to the information being spread on social media. Mi no support the spreading of erroneous information to make people more nervous and a fret and we done already nervous and a fret! Most people a look for information that is speaking to our preparedness if this debilitating disease shows it's ugly head on 'the rock'. We hear about a case in Spain and cases in the United States so we haffi mek sure we get it right this time. There is little or no room for error because as America sneeze we ketch col'! As government and as a people we must be steadfast at keeping Ebola from our shores but in this day of global integration and travel, we need to be ready for anything!!! Dead body Mi heart goes out to all the persons in the countries afflicted and affected by this disease which they say can be contracted by coming into contact with the bodily fluids, blood, and faeces of an infected person. To how this disease deadly, all when it kill the infected, nobody still can't touch the body and that said body has to be quarantined and cremated. It is important to note that is not all of Africa have Ebola as an epidemic or any at all. Many persons think Africa is a dot, when in fact it is a huge continent bigger than the North American continent where the United States and Canada are located. So when people a go try fi spread it like a the entire Africa inoculated by Ebola is not true. As a matter of fact mi talk to smaddy weh did deh down deh and dem seh fi dem preventative measures tun up more than nuff a who a put in fever detector a dem airport! East Africa and other parts have no reported cases of Ebola! So mi just hope Jamaica a do the same because we naa go get a second chance fi get it right! By the time the rounds dem start mek the whole a we dead off!! We need to be more proactive than reactive and tek this ting serious! It naa laugh and skin teet wid nobody and though to some it may seem far removed, it no tek nutten fi it reach yah! So we better shape up or we a go haffi ship out!!!
