Fire at Sangster Int'l Airport

There was a small fire at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, yesterday. The blaze caused delays for hundreds of passengers.

Passengers trying to board West Jet, American Airlines, South West, and Thomson Airways flights were among those affected.

It is reported that the fire began in the electrical room behind the check-in counters and is believed to have been caused by electrical faults.

Chief Commercial Officer at MBJ Airports Limited Elizabeth Scotton, said the fire began around 1 p.m. and was quickly contained.

The airport remained open and incoming flights were not affected.

In May, there was a major fire at Ajas Limited in the domestic terminal on the compound of the Sangster airport. It took several units to put out the mammoth blaze.
