Lenworth 'Teacher' Hyde

Lenworth Hyde Sr was fired as head coach of the Kingston College's (KC) Manning Cup team yesterday. Hyde's dismissal come shot on the heels of the school's 7-0 mauling by North Street neighbours St George's College at Winchester Park last Saturday. A letter from the school stated in part that: "Following a comprehensive analysis of the performance of KC's team, it was decided to carry out a restructuring exercise to get the best out of the team for rest of the season.

"It is unfortunate that you will not continue as coach." Hyde had taken control of KC's team in the summer following the resignation of Donovan Hayles.

When contacted yesterday, Hyde Sr told STAR Sports he was called to a meeting yesterday afternoon and handed a letter and a cheque for one month's salary.

"They called me to a meeting at the school at 1 p.m. and when I went there, the principal (Dave Myrie) handed me a letter and a cheque," Hyde Sr. told STAR Sports. Hyde's assistant Max Straw has also left his post. KC will next play Waterford at North Street today.

Neil Harrison, the school's track and field coach, will be in charge for the rest of the season. Harrison joined KC from Munro College this school year.

When quizzed as to what next, Hyde responded with a chuckle: "I will now kick back and watch my son Jaheel play for Wolmer's Boys in the Manning Cup."

Lenworth, a former outstanding national midfielder has coached Premier League clubs Portmore United and Harbour View to the Premier League title. He is the father of World Youth 100m hurdles, World Junior 400m hurdles and Youth Olympics 110m hurdles champion, Jaheel, who is also a schoolboy football star.
