Former West Indies one-day captain Darren Sammy does not believe the suspension of Sunil Narine from bowling in the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) tournament will adversely affect the off-spinner s during the the one-day series against India.

Narine, constantly ranked as one of the best spinners in the world in recent years, was earlier this week warned, then suspended from bowling in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)-organised Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) tournament.

"I am never one to get involved into what the authorities do or say, but I back my teammates, and I back Narine to comeback stronger, and even have a great one-day series here in India," said Sammy, who still captains the West Indies Twenty20 team.

"Knowing Narine, if you watch him play, nothing seems to affect him. No emotions, no nothing. He is a strong-minded individual.

most dangerous spinner

"I read where they are stopping his faster ball, but without the faster ball, he is still the most dangerous spinner in the world. I believe he will come back, and come back stronger."

The warning of Narine, which took place following a CLT20 group stage encounter, and the ban, which came after the playing of the semi-finals on Thursday, comes amidst what tournament officials describe as a suspect illegal bowling action whenever Narine bowls his faster delivery. Narine represents reigning Indian Premier League champions and CLT20 finalists Kolkata Knight Riders.

The suspension of Narine, in the meanwhile, does not affect his status at the international level, but resonates across all BCCI-run tournaments, including the Indian Premier League.

Given the magnitude of BCCI tournaments, it is envisaged that the Trinidadian will come under increased international scrutiny, especially during the five-match one-day India series, which bowls off on Wednesday.

The West Indies, whose current one-day captain is Dwayne Bravo, are also down to play a one-off Twenty20 international and three Test matches while in India.
