I have heard the saying 'once a cheater, always a cheater'. This statement always disturbs me because I don't think that at all. In my opinion, cheating is a choice, not a character trait. Before I touch on what makes people cheat, let me first define what I mean when I say cheating.

What is cheating?

Simply put : CHEATING is acting contrary to the terms of your relationship with your partner. So if you are in a relationship with two other people who have all agreed that three of you are together with the guidelines as required, then you are not cheating on each other. If you add a fourth person without the consent of the other parties, then that would be cheating.

Now, when it comes to the reasons a person cheat, these will vary and my be affected by different circumstances. There is a common rule of thumb that if a woman is happy and satisfied in her relationship, then she is less likely to cheat. So here are some popular reasons why men and women cheat:

Men

Take one for the team - When men go out in groups, and meet a group of women, the man in the group that is not single has to be his friend's wing man and keep a young lady company so his friend can get close to her girlfriend. This can lead to a lot more than just an evening out.

Opportunity - There are some men who feel that certain women are out of their league, if given the opportunity to be with such a woman, he will take it, even though he's in a relationship.

Feels bored with sex fromPart ner - Some women view sex as a chore and her performance reflects that. So if he is bored with the sex in his relationship, then he is not likely to pass up an opportunity to have some exciting sex with someone else.

Revenge - If he was cheated on, then he will want to reciprocate and cheat on his partner. Emotionally dissatisfied in the relationship -Just being able to open up to someone else and have them show some care and emotion, can create a situation where he will get closer to that person and cheat on his partner.

Women

Revenge - If she has been cheated on, she will want to make him feel her pain by cheating back on him.

Excuse to leave relationship - Some women have checked out of her relationship and instead of straight up leaving her partner, she cheats and gives him a reason to leave instead.

A need is being filled that is lacking in relationship - Being able to get something that she considers important from someone else, will create opportunities for her to get more from this person and cheat on her partner.

To get the attention of her partner - Sometimes in an effort to get her partner's attention, a woman will step on purpose to get him jealous and appreciate that other men finds her attractive.

At the end of the day, cheating is a choice, whatever the reason. If you feel like your relationship is lacking, the best way to deal with it is to start by communicating with your partner.
