STETHS, Lacovia clash in daCosta feature

Wedderburn

Western Bureau: Nothing can be taken for granted, but when it comes to daCosta Cup schoolboy football in the breadbasket parish, only two schools carry enough swag, former champions Munro College and current title holders St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS).

Munro have lost twice in three matches so far in this campaign. They were beaten by B.B. Coke and then went down to a surprise 2-1 loss to Lacovia.

Lacovia will later today meet the champions in a top-of-the-group clash at STETHS in Santa Cruz, just one of 29 matches across the groups today.

Both schools have nine points from three matches and appear set to decide group honours.

Omar Wedderburn, the STETHS coach, is not surprised his rivals are doing so well.

"I have been saying this, that all the teams in this group are strong. It is a competitive group, so Lacovia at the top with us is no real surprise," said Wedderburn.

He said STETHS will enter the game confident in their own ability to deliver a good performance, noting that the three points are all that matter.

Elsewhere in the group, B.B. Coke will be looking to build on their morale-boosting 3-2 win over Munro and will start as slight favourites against Newell.

Over in Group A, the unbeaten Cornwall College are set to claim their third victory in a row when they host Irwin High at Jarrett Park, while at Anchovy, the home team battles Theodore "Tappa" Whitmore's impressive-looking St James High.
