André Williams, STAR Writer Questions are now being raised by a mother who is perturbed that after almost 14 years, her estranged husband is now seeking a DNA test to determine the paternity of their child. According to 58-year-old Richard Headly, he is seeking to have a DNA done to encourage him even further to divorce 46-year-old Maxine White, office attendant, with whom he had tied the knot in 1998. Headly says they will never reunite because of the situation that exists between them and how it was handled. And judging by their responses, it was clear that they were still bitter towards each other. When asked if they were still in a relationship; White quickly responded: "No!" Headly said: "We are separated from 2005 ... she left us and we have been there from that." Headly has kept the child in question since they separated, and although he has serious doubts, he does the boy to be his; "I want the results to be positive," he said. White : "The results positive, me know me nuh affi ask." THE STAR sought their views on what will be the likely outcome after the result is revealed. White : "If is not his child, mi nuh know how that ago work out. I wasn't playing around. A four years after me leave him before me start play around. If it says is his child then I would be glad ... mi 199 per cent sure, and if mi want go more, I can." Headly : "If is my child, it would clear my head and make me comfortable. I would just move along, we are attached. If is not my child, I think she would have to reimburse me everything in a form of discipline. This would determine how fast I move along with my divorce." The child in question is registered as Headly Junior, however, that, too, has sparked a debate. White : "Why did he go and register him in his full name if he was not sure?" Headly : "She use to tell me about her supervisor. She and him did too close and now while my son is growing, each time I look at him a di supervisor me see." The doubtful Headly further explained the reason behind his uncertainty; "I use to feel a way when people tell mi say mi and him nuh have nothing and we nuh favour. Everybody tell me - friends and family. White however said: "I don't have no doubts, a me get pregnant. A him sister a push him fi do DNA. She nuh like mi, and say a obeah mi obeah him fi get him fi marry me. Him want to do as him please and that's why I left the relationship." Headly was of the view that the dilemma surrounding their child is well known. "Everybody knows, church, school everywhere. From prep to primary and now high school dem know." White:"No, a him alone, nobody don't know. That's why mi a wonder why him down on doing a DNA." THE STAR asked who the child looks like; White said: "He has my complexion, but him favour dem." Headly said: "The child nuh look like none of us, him look like dat man. Him favour the supervisor." " If is not his child mi nuh know how that ago work out. I wasn't playing around. A four years after me leave him before me start play around. |
