United defender Jones could be out for a month

MANCHESTER, England (AP):

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says centre back Phil Jones will be out for up to a month with a hamstring injury. Jones was hurt during England's 2-0 win over Switzerland in a European Championship qualifier in Basel.

Van Gaal says Jones would be sidelined for "maybe three weeks or a month".

With Chris Smalling also out injured, Van Gaal's defensive options are limited ahead of today's Premier League match against Queens Park Rangers. New signings Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo could make their competitive debuts, though.

United failed to win any of their first three league games this season, and has two points from a possible nine.
