Davina Henry, Staff Reporter With only four contestants remaining, the finalists in the Digicel Rising Stars were tasked with performing two songs - one from the year of their birth and the other from 2014. Sarai Lee Moodie was up first and chose Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On. Whereas all three judges agreed that it was not the best song choice, they also had issues with her pitch and pronunciation. Her second performance of Paramore's Ain't It Fun was better received. "This was much better than the previous song. But, you are not really stepping out of the box," Conroy Wilson stated. She was followed by fan-favourite T'Rizzy, who delivered a good rendition of Richie Stephens and Mad Cobra's Legacy. He, however, failed to impress the judges. "You're becoming a little complacent. You need to step it up," Denyque said. "That was a waste of time. It was routine, run of the mill. Try harder," Anthony Miller stated. He redeemed himself with his second performance of John Legend's You And I. "That was flawless. I love your voice," Denyque said. "Best performance of the night," Miller remarked. With a knack for selecting songs that suit his voice, JL's rendition of 3T's Anything had audience members singing along. "I liked the song for you. I thought you could do much more with it," Wilson said. Miller added, "You have a knack for performance skills but it was void of electricity. It was pleasant but boring," he said. He upped the ante with his cover of Magic!'s Rude. All three judges agreed JL had consistently been delivered great performances as the competition progressed. Seemingly saving the best for last, Young Kings' cover of Buju Banton and Wayne Wonder's Bonafide Love was very entertaining. The duo remixed the lyrics of the song to make it their own. As with each week, the judges commended Shamar (the deejay) for his witty lyrics and performance skills. Fabian (the singer) was once again penalised for his pitchy tone. "Shamar, you are keeping Young Kings in contention but, really, it's time to go," Miller said. "You guys are my favourite. You are getting better but the singer is often times flat. You need to do voice training," Denyque added. Their second performance proved to be the best of the night. Once again, remixing a popular song, Young Kings changed the lyrics of Busy Signal's Professionally to 'Vote Mi A Look'. "That was a good performance. You guys are fighting your way to the top," Wilson said. Miller said Shamar was destined to make it as a deejay. He, however, had scathing remarks for Fabian. "If a croaking lizard could song, it would sound like you." The night ended with a performance from artiste Bugle. |
