Marshall stars for Anchovy

Paul Clarke, STAR Writer
Western Bureau:

Ronaldo Marshall moved into the lead in the race for the golden boot after just one match in the 2014 ISSA/LIME daCosta Cup, firing a four-timer to lead Anchovy High School to a 4-1 win over Irwin High yesterday.

The win takes the Edwin Alcock-coached school into a provisional lead in Zone A, on three points, two more than St James High and Green Pond, who drew 1-1 on Saturday's opening day.

"This is a good win. We played very good football and I am happy to score the goals that gave us the win," said Marshall who scored in the 15th, 45th, 47th and 77th minutes.

Irwin were outplayed from the opening whistle on a muddy field, left drenched after a heavy and persistent mid-afternoon downpour, and the home team took advantage when Marshall gave them the lead 15 minutes after the start.

"If we keep winning, I think we can win the zone and that is our aim. We have been talking about the second round as a realistic target, but we will take anything else after that," Marshall added.

Oshane Brown scored the consolation goal for Irwin in the 53rd minute.
