Tivoli eyeing Super Cup

Robert Bailey, STAR Writer

After a dismal showing in last year's competition, Tivoli Gardens head coach, Dave Clarke, said they are very determined to reach the quarter-finals of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/LIME Manning Cup this season.

Clarke, whose team last won the competition in 1999, made his assessment following their 3-2 come-from-behind away victory over Edith Dalton James in Group C yesterday.

Chevaughn (50th), Rohan Wright (58th) and Orlando Wade (75th) were the goal scorers for the west Kingston-based school. Darren Boland netted both goals for Edith Dalton in the 17th and 90th minutes.

Tivoli were recording their first win from two outings in the competition, but despite this, Clarke believes his team is on course for the quarter-finals.

"We are off the mark now and the dream is for us to win the group," said Clarke. "We are looking at the LIME Super Cup for the top eight teams and in order for us to achieve that, then it means that we have to keep winning games,"he said.

Edith Dalton James coach, Omar Taffe, was very disappointed with his team's efforts. "Our goalkeeper gave up some soft goals and that cost us the game," said Taffe.
