Hard-hitting Bolt delights in Indian cricket match

A showman on the track, Jamaican sprinting star Usain Bolt yesterday brought his flair to the cricket pitch, wooing Indian fans with a powerful match-winning effort - almost as impressive as his larger-than-life image.

Bolt came out on top in a cricketing showcase that pitted the six - time Olympic gold medallist against Indian cricketing star Yuvraj Singh as sponsor Puma brought two of its biggest names together in a light-hearted seven-a-side exhibition event in front of 6,000 excited fans at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

In a match that featured four overs per team, Team Bolt clinched a thrilling last ball victory over Team Yuvraj with the 100m and 200m world record holder taking the plaudits - even if the cricketer walked away with his head high after 'winning' a 100m foot race.

Bolt slugged his way to a boundary - laden, 19-ball 45 runs innings, lifting Singh over the boundary for three of his five sixes, leading his team in their chase of the 59 - run target.

The sprinting superstar was not alone, with his long-time friend, executive manager and former opening partner in primary school Nugent Walker Jr. showing his worth, sticking around and helping himself to 14 runs off six balls with three fours to his credit, as Team Bolt ended on 61 without loss in their allotted overs.

Earlier, Singh scored 24 off 14 balls, smashing one six and three fours. The match came down to the wire with Team Bolt needing 10 runs to win from two balls. The sprinter smashed bit par spinner Aditya Tare for a six straight over his head, with a further four runs needed off the final ball.

Bolt missed the next ball completely despite an enormous swing but as Singh and his teammates started to celebrate, a no ball was called. Bolt then smashed the subsequent delivery out of the park to give his team the victory.

It wasn't a perfect day for the sprinter, however, as he earlier missed an opportunity to remove Singh, after he dropped what seemed a regulation catch off the bowling of Walker Jr.

Billed as 'Bolt and Yuvi: Battle of the legends', the promotional event also saw Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh featuring for Team Bolt with Zaheer Khan among the names playing to the instruction of 2011 Cricket World Cup winning hero Singh.

Usain Bolt drops a catch after a shot played by Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh during a friendly cricket match between Bolt's and Singh's team in Bangalore, India.
