A man accused of attemptimg to strangle his wife was admonished and discharged when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Winston Williams who pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Allegations are that on November 25, 2013, Williams, is believed to have strangled his 44-year-old wife in bed as she slept.

"I don't wish to continue with the matter, because he is the breadwinner," said the complainant.

"You're a dangerous person when you attack a person in their sleep and they're defenceless!" said Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey.

"And you talk about love? You know that song?" RM Pusey asked the accused.

The sitting magistrate then burst into song, gracing the court with a snippet of popular reggae singer Al Campbell's Talk About Love, much to the delight of spectators seated in the gallery.

The court heard that, during the alleged assault, Williams cut his wife on her ear.

"Him cut you?" inquired RM Pusey.

"No, Your Honour," the complainant replied.

"So why you go to the station and say him cut you?" RM Pusey probed. "I don't take these things lightly, because they end up in my court sheet as murder, serious injury.

Directing her attention to Williams, RM Pusey said: Mr gentleman, listen, if you not doing anything bad, don't start. And if you are, stop!"

Subsequently, no evidence was offered against Williams, at the request of the complainant.
