The case involving Constable André Thomas, who is charged with attempted murder and rape, has taken a new twist after the complainant attended court and said that she was not interesting in pursuing the matter.

When the case was mentioned on Tuesday, the court was informed by the complainant that she only reported the matter as she wanted the police to warn Thomas.

Resident Magistrate Anmarie Nembhard told the complainant that the matter will be postponed until September 12, when the complainant will give a sworn testimony as to why she is dropping the matter.

Meanwhile, Thomas was remanded until that date. Attorney-at-law Hemsley Williams is representing Thomas.

The allegations are that in early June, Thomas lured the complainant to a section of Eltham Park where he reportedly beat her and attempted to light her with tyres. She begged for her life and was spared. He is said to have gone to the house of the complainant afterwards where he sexually assaulted a teenager.

A report was made and an investigation launched, which resulted in the director of public prosecutions ruling that he be charged.
