Mother and three sons arrested for drugs

A woman and her three sons have been arrested and charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs act, police have confirmed.

The four were held after detectives from the Organised Crime Investigations Division (OCID) found half a million dollars' worth of ganja at their home, the police said.

Charged with possession of and dealing in ganja are 40-year-old Julia Barrett and her sons: 25-year-old Pianky Jones, 24-year-old Tafari Jones and 21-year-old Marcus Jones, all of Giltress Street in Rollington Town, St Andrew.

Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that OCID detectives conducted a special operation in the area, when a premises, occupied by Barrett and her sons was searched and approximately 100 pounds of ganja was found.

The four were subsequently taken into custody. Police said the illicit drug has a street value of J$500,000.

The four appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates' Court at Half Way Tree, St Andrew, on Monday and are scheduled to return on Monday, October 6.
