Manchester United's Darren Fletcher (left) in action against Valencia's Paco Alcacer during a pre-season friendly match at Old Trafford Stadium, Manchester, yesterday. - AP MANCHESTER, England (AP): Substitute Marouane Fellaini scored in second-half stoppage time as Manchester United beat Valencia 2-1 in manager Louis van Gaal's first home game in charge of the English Premier League club. Despite the late victory, van Gaal was critical of his team ahead of the start of the season. "I think it was our worst match today. There was a lot of wrong choices, wrong passes and we didn't press so good," said the United boss. However he was quick to praise the home crowd after walking out at Old Trafford for the first time. "Fantastic. They (the fans) are shouting and screaming your name," noted the 62-year-old. Earlier Darren Fletcher put United ahead in the 49th minute before Rodrigo netted for Valencia in the 71st. Meanwhile citing "latest security intelligence", United has added "large electronic devices including laptops and tablets" to the list of banned items for match days at its famous 76,100-seater stadium. An email was circulated to fans ahead of yesterday's friendly explaining the new measures. "The scale of Old Trafford and profile of Manchester United mean that the risk at this venue is unique," United said. Sports fans are increasingly using iPads and similar devices to take photographs and videos in stadiums, raising fears that games could be filmed and copyright laws could be broken. |
